The organisation was established in the 1980s in the United Kingdom and originates from the offshore oil and gas industry, where maintenance had to be carried out in difficult-to-access locations. IRATA has since grown to become the world's largest training, registration, and quality system for industrial rope techniques, and is thereby the legal standard for industrial climbing. This ISO17024 certified quality label operates according to strict work guidelines and consists of 3 levels.
